Educational Hobbies for Children
Does your child have a hobby? I’m not talking about any video
games or watching TV soaps, I mean an interesting hobby which
will help them learn as well as keep them entertained for hours.
Most parents would like to see their children doing something
more challenging or educational and I have suggested a few ideas
you can start using right now. If you encourage them and get
involved as well, it might even help them stay away from a bad
peer group and stay out of trouble.

A great hobby for children is playing a musical instrument. If
the child has musical tendencies then some instruments can be
taught from a book, such as the guitar for instance. They say
it is best to start with the piano/keyboard but for piano
playing and other instruments, you will probably have to invest
in lessons. However there are many online videos to help you
get a taste of different instruments and see if it’s for you
before you invest heavily in lessons. Then practice is, of
course, an essential part of mastering any musical instrument.

How to Play Musical Instruments

Another children’s hobby is pursuing an art or a craft.
Children can learn to draw, paint, or make scrapbook pages.
They can learn to use modelling clay, re-create some of their
favourite film & TV characters, paint them and then play with
them. Beginning carpentry is a very useful hobby that may even
turn into a career, or at least develop skills that will be used
for a lifetime. Also tinkering around on engines or electronics
is another hobby that can lead to useful skills.

There are all sorts of things that children might like to
collect for a hobby. Some of the more common collections are of
stamps, coins, and rocks. Stamps are interesting because they
can be from many different countries, becoming a geography
lesson, my brother has a massive collection he started when he 9
years old. Coins and stamps both are of historical
significance, and encourage reading to learn more about
different eras in history.

My four year old son always has a pocket full of stones and we
have to count them nearly every night, add the new total to his
scrap book and he is now copying the numbers I write and is
learning about numbers along the way. As he grows he will be
looking into science books to learn more about them.

Anything a child has an interest in can be collected, such as
figurines for strategy games and if a child is interested in
dolphins, for instance, she may not only collect dolphin
figurines and posters, but also be motivated to read books about
dolphins.

Construction sets also make a good pastime for children. Many
people may think of these only as toys, but children who have
grown up with these sets and added components to them down
through the years can create some pretty impressive models.
They are also gaining skills in reasoning and perception as they
build.

Making models, such as cars, boats, and airplanes, has always
been a popular hobby. If your child is interested in making
models, you should be very encouraging. Model car kits can be
very complicated and require a great deal of precision. If your
child's first few creations leave a little bit to be desired,
don't laugh or scold, or he is likely to never want to try to
make anything again! Get the easiest kit he is willing to make
and then patiently help him as much as needed.

Many children enjoy sports, making any physical activity a great
hobby. Football, basketball, and Tag Rugby all come to mind,
but don't forget about track and field events. Maybe your child
would enjoy distance running or gymnastics. An active hobby
will help your child stay in shape as well as encouraging you to
be more active too.

It does not matter which hobby you support your child in, as
long as you support them in at least one, because when you do
you will create a bond with your child of mutual admiration and
respect that will last a lifetime.

All I wanted was a book that told me what to do when my kids asked those awkward questions, misbehaved or came home with homework I didn't understand. There wasn't one. So I built http://family-guide.co.uk To Solve The Problem! This article may be used as long as all links and bio remain intact and the article is unedited.
