My mother worked when I was growing up. She used to run her own business from home in the mornings and took on the role of stay-at-home-mom in the afternoon. My best friends mom used to work full time, so she has fond memories of afternoon care and last minute arrangements of staying at friends houses till her mom finished work. Its a known fact that there are mothers that do put their work first before their children. When asked for a reason, they explain that they like to raise their kids on example and for their kids to see mommy working is teaching them responsibility and independence. However, being a career-orientated woman with not only children but also newly born babies, is not easy. The fine line of work and motherhood is often being overstepped in favour of meetings, deadlines and stress. There are times women come to work with their suitcase in one hand and their newly born baby in the other. Co-workers mumble how inappropriate it is to have a screaming baby in the work place. But what is she to do, if the babysitter cancelled and her family is out of town? The image of a woman in an executive suit going to work is a fantastic image, but at the end of the day, women are still the only ones that can give birth to a child. We have a natural nurturing nature and are built for the birth process. As much as you may want to, taking your baby to work is unprofessional. But there are companies that are catering for this by providing a baby-care service so that mommies can drop their kids off at the day care in the office, and then go to the office themselves. Once she is finished at work, she can pick up her child on the way out. This way, moms can go to work and still be in the area if something were to go wrong. For working moms this service provided by companies is the best thing since sliced bread, breasts pumps and pickles. For companies, this system also works well. They dont have to worry about moms quitting after giving birth, moms can still arrive on time for work as they didnt have to stay and wait for the babysitter, plus a lot of women will want to work for the company because of this added benefit.
